Don’t Be Dim – LEDs are the Future
Posted by Nat Smith on 19th Jun 2018
Some people have expressed worries that LEDs might not work with dimmer switches. Whilst in the past most energy-saving light bulbs struggled with dimmer switches, many of our LEDs are actually completely dimmable.
Cutting-Edge Trailing Edge
We have a brilliant selection of dimmable bulbs with the same fantastic performance as their non-dimmable siblings. However, the correct type of dimmer switch needs to be used. Traditional dimming switches use leading edge technology, which unfortunately isn’t compatible with dimmable LEDs. They can seriously affect the performance of your bulbs, causing them to flicker, not turn on, or shorten their lengthy lifespan.
That’s why a dimmable LED needs a trailing edge dimmer switch. These are fully compatible with dimmable LEDs, giving you optimal performance from the best in light bulb technology. There’ll be no flickering, humming, or performance deficit – you’ll get the identical amazing performance that an LED provides.
A Little More About Dimmers
With one of our LED dimmer switches, you can dim your LED to around 10% of their maximum brightness.
If you’re worried about switching your dimmer to a trailing edge, but love the aesthetic you’ve been cultivating, then don’t worry. It’s possible to change the internal workings of the dimmer switch without losing the fascia on the front. However, if you wish to change the look of your dimmer, or upgrade to a dimmer from a standard switch, then we offer a wide range of different options.
Some Options for You
For standard rotary dimmer switches, we offer a few choices. For example, the Varilight 1 Gang 2 Way LED Dimmer Switch (V-Pro & V-Com) is a lovely switch that works well and looks better. Available in 9 different finishes (premium white, Victorian brass, mirror chrome, satin chrome, matt chrome, Georgian brass, iridium black, graphite, and pewter)
We also have the very premium looking Varilight V-Pro 4 Gang 2 Way Screwless LED Dimmer Switch, which has the capability to control 4 different circuits. This is the sleeker option, with invisible fixings leading to a minimalist look. It is available in premium white, matt chrome, Victorian brass, mirror chrome, Georgian brass, iridium black, and mocha options.
Away from the rotary dimmers are the slightly more luxurious touch dimmers. Try Varilight V-Pro IR Lily 1 Gang Master Dimmer / Slave Unit out, with its lovely array of different colours. With an innovative touch control switch, you can get this switch in beryl green, duck egg blue, pillar box red, reflex blue, rose pink, and white chocolate.
Finally, see the Varilight V-Pro Screwless Eclique2 4-Gang Master Dimmer / Slave Unit. It has the same premium screwless fascia for a lavish look. We offer it in premium white, matt chrome, brushed brass, mirror chrome, polished brass, iridium black, jet black, and mocha options.
Remember, if you prefer the look of your own dimmer switch, we also sell an LED module that should slot neatly behind the switch’s front.
