Choosing The Right Aluminium Profile
Posted by Navdip Gahir on 16th Sep 2025
While LED Strip Lights are perhaps the best way of adding some gorgeous lighting to your home, you can take one step further by adding Aluminium Profiles to your setup.
In a nutshell, these are long strips (excuse the pun) of aluminium that are built to house your LED Tapes, and they serve a number of purposes.
They help provide a secure housing for your strip lights, keeping them in place wherever you have them installed. On top of that, they drastically improve the look of your install, giving it a really nice, professional finish. And to top things off, aluminium profiles even prolong the life of your strips by up to 50%, by acting as a heat sink.
With all that in mind, they are a bit of a no-brainer. The question then becomes, which one should I choose for my setup? Let’s run through the main types to see which one works best for you.
Classic Aluminium Profiles
These are the go to’s for most strip light installs. They’re surface mount, so they can be used pretty much anywhere, by either using the supplied brackets to fix them to a wall, or by simply using silicone to stick them to your surface.
The actual profile of the…Profile…is almost square, giving you ample room for the tape itself, as well as having enough room for the light to spread before hitting the diffuser.
All in all, these are a great all rounder that can be used in almost any kind of setting.

Slim Aluminium Profiles
Our slim range is very similar to our classics in many ways. They’re surface mount, and stick to surfaces in the same way, using either the brackets or by using silicone.
They do however differ in terms of dimensions. If you look at the shape of the slim profile, it’s a lot more rectangular than our classic, with less distance between the tape and the diffuser.
This makes it a great option for spaces where you have less room, like under plinths and cabinets for example.

Recessed Aluminium Profiles
Here’s where the range starts to get a bit more specialised based on the type of install you need. Where our classic and slim ranges are surface mount, our recessed range slots into channels that you have to make in your walls.
While this seems to be more work, the end result is far more streamlined and premium. This range gives you an almost integrated solution, similar to that of spotlights, where the light itself doesn’t actually protrude from the wall.
This is a brilliant option for any tape installation where the tape itself will be visible, as it makes the end result that much nicer to look at.

Corner Aluminium Profiles
As the name suggests, our corner profiles slot neatly into corners - be it where your wall meets your ceiling, or where two walls meet. You could even use them where a shelf meets a wall, for an up glow or a down glow.
This is because the back of the profile is ‘90 degree’ shaped, so it is also a surface mount profile.
This is best used for, well, corners, given the shape of it. It’s ideal for any 90 degree space, so it is also great for cabinets, shelving, ceilings and more.

Plaster-In Aluminium Profiles
The plaster-in profiles are probably the most difficult to install, but by far the best looking once it is set.
This range is perfect for anyone who is planning on doing, or is currently doing any kind of renovation in their home, as it requires a channel cutting into the wall for installation.
If this sounds familiar to the recessed option, then you would be right, however this plaster-in profile differs in one way.
Whereas the edges of the recessed profile will be visible once installed (and theoretically you could remove it at any time), the edges of the plaster-in profile will get plastered over, essentially embedding it into your wall permanently.
This is a great option for anyone who wants a truly premium lighting solution, and is planning on renovating.
