We would like to wish all our customers a happy Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day, 14th February, is a celebration of romance and love recognized all across the world. However, when it was first established the date didn’t hold any romantic connotations at all. It originally commemorated the anniversary of religious martyrs, mainly Saint Valentine.
The day first became identified with romantic love in the 14th Century after the famed poet and bard Geoffrey Chaucer made the connection in his Parlement of Foules honouring the first anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II to Anne of Bohemia.
According to the US Greeting Card Association, somewhere in the region of a billion Valentine’s cards are sent worldwide, making it one of the largest card-sending holidays of the year, coming second only to Christmas when an estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent.
As would be expected, all those cards amount to a lot of waste. That is why it is important to celebrate Valentine's while at the same time remaining mindful of the environment. As an eco-friendly solution, many couples prefer to send e-cards instead.
Another way to cut down on waste without killing the mood is to replace your dimmable lights with LED (Light Emitting Diodes). These use up to 90 per cent less energy than conventional filament light bulbs and last 20 times longer. Dimmable GU10 LED Bulbs will also allow you to create romantic ambience for a fraction of the cost.
If you haven’t found true love you don’t need to worry. Single’s now have their very own day on November 11th.
