Warm White LEDs – Taking The Stress Off Modern Day Life

Posted by Richard Clarke on 27th Sep 2011

Taking NotesWith all the stresses and troubles that modern day life brings you, choosing the right colour temperature for your home lighting has probably never been more important than it is now.

Unwinding at the end of a long day and relaxing is the only thing you’ll want – which leaves warm white as the perfect option for your domestic lighting.

A lot of people find picking a colour temperature a difficult choice, but we beg to differ. It’s really simple in theory, and even easier to understand in practice.

It’s a choice you’ll have to make if you’re replacing your old incandescent bulbs with LED light bulbs – if so you’ll be reaping the benefits of up to 90% less energy usage, 50,000 hours of life and added safety from low operating temperatures.

Correlated colour temperature (CCT) is simply a measure – in Kelvins – of how warm a light is perceived to be. Warm white comes in at 3000K on a scale that generally goes from 1000K to 10,000K.

Perhaps counter intuitively, the higher the Kelvin rating, the cooler the light.

Of course it is very possible to speak about the benefits of warm white in a jargon free manner, which is what we’re going to be doing for the rest of this short blog post.

Warm white is the main choice for domestic lighting, and is perfect for consistent and general illumination throughout the household. A huge reason for this is because of its soft appearance, making it quite easy on the eyes.

It actually looks pretty much identical to the shade emitted by traditional incandescent bulbs – resembling the warm colour tone of evening sunlight.

Autumn LandscapeThis is what makes it so perfect for relaxation and unwinding – it helps create a really comfortable and stress free environment.

As such, habitat spaces such as the living room, bedroom or dining room really benefit from warm white lighting.

One of the great things about warm white is that it is incredibly versatile in terms of your interior decor. It compliments interiors that utilise a lot of natural colours, but it also works for taking the edge off modern decor that can otherwise look a bit clinical.

This is particularly the case in kitchens and bathrooms that use a lot of white, reflective surfaces. All our warm white LED bulbs are great for retrofitting your home as they come in a range of popular fixtures, including GU10, E27 and B22.

Ultimately, it’s important to remember that there are no rules for colour temperatures – it really comes down to your personal preference, which is almost always more informative than the guidance in this blog.

Our handy 28 day home trial period lets you try both if you’re not sure – simply buy one of each colour temperature, and return the one you don’t want.
