If you take an already great product, and add some huge safety benefits to it – buying it becomes a no brainer right? Once you hear about Mirrorstone’s Fire Rated GU10 Tilt Downlight, you’ll be finding it hard to say no.

For a start it’s really versatile – the GU10 base ensures compatibility with all our GU10 spotlights, giving you so much freedom when it comes to your choices.

It comes with tilt functionality too, giving you further liberties with how you want to use them. The brass finish gives it a timeless look that fits neatly into any interior decor.

It has a diameter of 85mm and a recess depth of 133mm. The only thing it needs from you is a 75mm cutting hole for it to be used, and for you to make a couple of choices.

The first is whether you would like dimmable bulbs included in the package. Please be aware though that if you would like to use dimmable light, you will require a trailing edge dimmer. The kind of dimmers you would find in most houses – leading edge dimmers – aren’t guaranteed to work with LEDs, and could actually damage them.

The other option you’ll have is what colour temperature you would like – of which there are 2 choices. You can pick from warm white (3000K) and cool white (6000K).

Measured in Kelvins, the only difference is the perceived warmth of the light. Warm white helps create a cosy environment which is great for places like the living room or bedroom. Cool white is brighter and more penetrative than its warm counterpart. This is much better for places where you might need to concentrate like the kitchen or office.

Protecting You With Fire Rated Products

The main draw of this GU10 downlight is the fact that its fire rated. Here’s how it all works.

Normally, your ceiling protects you from fires in that it slows the spread between floors. Cutting any kind of hole reduces the protection that the ceiling gives you.

Even when the downlight has been fitted, there will still be tiny gaps between the hole and the edge of the light, and these let air and heat pass through.

Fire rated downlights solve this issue by swelling up when exposed to heat – and thus making the hole air tight. They can do this because they are made from intumescent material.

The protection the downlight gives you is good for up to 90 minutes. This gives you substantial time to get clear of the fire, and for emergency services to extinguish the blaze.

Although fire rated products generally cost more than standard downlights, the safety benefits can’t be ignored. Plus, there are some ways to offset the cost.

For A Different Flavour...

Whilst we have a wide variety of GU10 downlights for sale, we do have some recommendations for you.

If you don’t need the flexibility of a tilt downlight, we have the same product available but in a fixed fitting. The only other difference is that it requires a marginally smaller cutting hole – just 65mm.

Although you’ll have the option of buying bulbs with your downlight, you can also purchase them separately. This will come in handy when you come to replacing the bulbs themselves.
