5 LED Lighting Ideas For Your Kitchen.

Posted by Emma Reid on 2nd Mar 2023

LED strip lights are an amazing finishing touch, but they’re especially popular in kitchens. We’re looking at some bright ideas for incorporating LED tape into your kitchen.

LED strips combine the practical and the stylish in one package. They can be mounted out of the way, so during the day you don’t see them at all. Then at night they help your kitchen truly shine. Depending on where you install them, they can provide ambience, practical task lighting, or a combination of the two.

We’ve picked out five popular trends that we keep seeing, so you can see what they might add to your kitchen.

1)     Highlight Natural Materials

Natural stones and woods have really come into fashion lately, especially in more minimalist kitchens. LED lighting can really help these materials come into their own.

For example, installing your tape into a quartz backsplash will wash the stone with a softer light. This indirect lighting helps draw attention to the natural beauty in the quartz, letting the veining really stand out.

2)     Backlit Shelves

This is a classic use of LED tape. Because of their unique flexibility and compact designs, they can be placed in all kinds of places that other lights can’t.

Installing LEDs along shelves creates stunning accent lighting, adding extra ambience to your room.

If you’d prefer helpful task lighting that can help step up your cooking, then a line facing downwards on the base of your shelves is an alternative option.

For a versatile design, you could make use of an RGB + CCT or dual colour tape, which will enable you to swap between softer warm white light and more focused cool white light whenever you like.

Whatever you decide, this will turn your shelves into a stylish feature with a lot more depth.

3)     Architectural Features

If you’re doing a more extensive kitchen rebuild, it might be a good idea to figure out where LED tape can be installed from the ground up. Building your kitchen around the idea of LED lights lets you take full advantage of them.

For example, slightly recessed roof hollows are a popular design trend at the moment. Using cove lighting in these spaces makes them seem much higher, and gives the illusion of natural light seeping in.

4)     Goodbye Downlights

Downlights are a fairly popular method of modernising kitchen lighting, but LED strips give a much smoother and even light, which is much better for creating ambience. They can be installed around awkward spaces so if you have sloped ceilings or tight corners you don’t have to leave them dark.

Combining the two lighting methods is a great way to truly enhance your room’s look and feel.

5)     Kitchen Islands

Kitchen islands are a really practical kitchen feature, but sometimes they can be a little bit neglected. You’ll see stylish tables with elegant details and fine materials, but these tend to get lost due to the fact that the space beneath them can be a bit shadowy.

LED tape will stay out of view during the day, but add some amazing wow factor at night.
