LED Downlights – Beautiful And Versatile
Posted by Richard Clarke on 29th Aug 2015
Decorating can be a fun experience. Whether you’re giving your current home a new look, or moving into a completely different house, decorating is your chance to be creative and stamp your personality on your property.
Lighting plays a huge part in this, and our fitted LED downlights are some of the best options available to you.
Why LEDs?
Out of the 3 types of lighting available on the market today – incandescent, fluorescent and LED – it’s the latter that provides the best all round performance. Here’s why.
Everyone likes to save money, right? LED lights let you save loads. The moment you switch them on, they’re already using up to 90% less energy than your old incandescent bulbs.
They do this because they’re so much more efficient – they only lose 10% of the energy to heat wastage, whereas incandescent bulbs lose up to 80% to heat alone. Imagine the difference this makes to your electricity bills?
As there is less heat passing through the internal components, there is ultimately less stress on them. This is why LEDs last so long – 50,000 hours is the average lifespan on our products.
This is 2 times longer than most compact fluorescent lights, and a massive 20 times longer than incandescent lighting. Ultimately, this saves you a lot of money on maintenance costs – as you don’t need to buy replacement bulbs for years at a time.
Why Downlights?
One of the most appealing features of recessed fitted LED downlights is the fact that they don’t protrude from your ceiling like conventional light fittings do. This is especially useful if your ceilings are particularly low.
This helps give them a modern and stylish look, as they are relatively small given their performance.
More often than not, fitted downlights are used in groups rather than on their own. Many people prefer this as it results in an even distribution of light across a room, minimising shadows.
That’s before we get into the range of colours on offer too. With satin chrome, black, polished chrome, white and brushed metal available, there’s a finish for every kind of decor – ensuring that your downlights don’t stick out like a sore thumb!
We should also add that our fitted LED downlights also come with a couple of safety benefits. The first is IP65 ratings, guarding your purchase against all dust and light jets of water.
The second is fire rated protection, which helps prevent the spreading of fires between floors for up to 90 minutes!
Don’t forget that our fitted downlights come with everything incorporated in a single unit too – bulb and driver are included inside the robust casing!
Where Can I Use Them?
This is the great thing about LED downlights – they look great pretty much anywhere across the house!
Some of the more popular areas include the bathroom and kitchen. As discussed earlier, they don’t protrude from the ceiling, helping them to look subtle and minimalist. As a result, they accentuate the clean look typically associated with kitchens and bathrooms.
This also helps them look really good in the bedroom too, giving an open and airy feel. Decor and colour schemes matter little, as they go with many different styles of bedroom.
This is because bedrooms are relatively smaller than the living room – where LED downlights can also be used, but look best when paired with a minimalist, contemporary decor.
If your living room has lots of colour and lots of furniture for example, then the busyness will clash with the subtlety of the downlights.
Despite this, our recessed fitted LED downlights are really versatile pieces of kit – working almost anywhere throughout the house. On top of this, they also give you all the benefits of LED lighting – saving you money on bills and maintenance costs.
