GU10 LED Light Bulbs – Simply The Best For Energy-Efficiency!
Posted by Richard Clarke on 18th Aug 2015
LED lights are becoming ever more popular, especially now that people are beginning to get wise to their incredible money-saving potential.
Energy-efficient GU10 LED bulbs are at the forefront of this lighting revolution, and for a variety of very good reasons.
Phase Out The Old / Phase In The New
You’ll discover that these LED bulbs are designed to retrofit into your existing light fittings, where they’ll replace your current, outmoded and wasteful incandescent and fluorescent (CFL) bulbs.
This feature is set to become more important over the next few years, as a radical EU Commission plan is afoot to phase-out inefficient "D"-class halogen bulbs by the 1st of September 2018.
The decision, made following a thorough review which included Members of the European Parliament, Member States authorities, the lighting industry, consumer organisations, environmental NGOs and members of the public, concluded that LEDs offer a high savings potential, as the energy-consumption of a halogen lamp is often many times higher than that of an energy-efficient LED.
A Wide Variety Of Savings
There are such a wide variety of GU10 LED light bulbs available that you, as a consumer, definitely won’t be short of choices when the big phase-out occurs!
Which GU10 LED bulb you choose will, to a great extent, depend upon the light intensity you require for your space.
For a relatively small area, you might decide to go for the Portal 3W GU10 LED Bulb that emits 250 Lumens of brightness.
Whilst it’s the equivalent in brilliance of a 35W traditional bulb, this LED GU10 requires just 3W of electricity to power it, so it uses a mere 1/16th of the power to run!
Similar cost-effectiveness and frugality can be attributed to the slightly more luminescent, bestselling GU10 80 SMD LED, as it produces 400 Lumens for 3.3W and, like the vast majority of LED GU10s, is available in 3 colour temperatures.
People use this bulb in their living areas and bedrooms, incorporating either the warm (3000K) or daylight (4000K) white temperature, because those options produce mellow and naturalistic light that’s conducive to rest and relaxation.
The cool white (6000K) variety is most often employed for its crisp, bright and penetrative light that enhances the clean, sterile feel of the kitchen and bathroom.
When used in conjunction with a trailing edge dimmer, the GU10 LED COB produces a huge 860 Lumens of dimmable light, and all for a meagre 9W of electricity, and the GU10 RGB LED with its IR Controller will produce red, green and blue light for 1/10th of the cost of a similarly bright 30W traditional bulb!
It has been estimated that switching from an average halogen lamp to an energy-efficient LED, will save consumers approximately £90.00 over the LED’s expected 20-year or 50,000 hour lifespan, with savings only rising as purchase prices fall and LED quality continues to improve exponentially as it has for the last few years.
If you calculate the number of bulbs in your property and multiply that number by £90, you’ll have a pretty accurate guesstimate of the amount you could save by switching!
Save The Planet Too!
The switch LED light in 2018 will also greatly benefit the environment, yielding annual energy savings equivalent to the yearly power consumption of Portugal.
This will save 15.2 million tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2025, the same amount generated by roughly 2 million people per year. This in turn will reduce the EU's required importation of oil by approximately 73 million barrels.
It kind of puts it into perspective, doesn’t it?
