Float Like A Balloon, Shine Like An LED

LED Balloons - Balloon Lamps by Kouichi OkamotoIt goes without saying that we love anything to do with LEDs here at Wholesale LED Lights – especially anything that makes us stop in our tracks.

The inner child in all of us loves balloons too – so imagine our delight when we discovered the Balloon Lamp by Kouichi Okamoto.

They’re really simple in practice – they’re just sold as a kit which includes two balloons, a high-intensity LED light, 2 lithium-ion batteries and a set of instructions...in Japanese.

Sold on the Japan Trend Shop site, the LED lights themselves are long-lasting which run for hundreds of hours, powered by the supplied batteries. Of course one of the great things about LEDs is that they stay really cool when they’re on.

This plays an integral part in Okamoto’s lamps – they don’t run the risk of heating the balloon and making it pop.

A hook enables the lamp to be hung from the ceiling. As the lamp is battery-operated – it can easily be repositioned and moved from room to room.

“I wanted to make a spherical lamp that was functionally simple” said Okamoto.

Finding inspiration from a Japanese lamp of the past, the chochin, he said “[it] was a portable lamp that used a candle during the Edo period. With the Ballloon Lamp, the flame is transformed into an LED, the candle into a lithium cell and the paper shade into a rubber balloon.”

We think these would look really cool in a child’s bedroom – perhaps as a floating night light. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
