LED Illumination And Home Automation – The Perfect Combination

Posted by Richard Clarke on 4th Oct 2011

SmartphoneIf you’ve ever gone on holiday and realised when you’re on the plane, that you’ve left your lights, or one of your household appliances switched on at home, you’ll know just how exasperating it can be.

You have that nagging feeling that while you’re sipping your Sangria by the pool, your electricity bill is rising needlessly, and there’s nothing you can do about it. That stuff can spoil a holiday, right?

Well now there’s a way to control your lighting and indeed all your electrical appliances via your smart phone or tablet. And you can do it from anywhere in the world!

Home Automation - The Way Forward

It’s called Home Automation and the company that’s created this amazing system is LightwaveRF.  With it installed, your entire home will be yours to command.

Check out this short video to see how Home Automation will benefit you:

Three Steps To Smart Home Heaven

So now you’re onboard, you can follow these three simple steps to home automation heaven:

  • Step One – Download the app to your smart phone or tablet. It’s available from both Google Play and from the App Store.

  • Step Two - Purchase the LightwaveRF Link. This brainy little box will act as the command centre, communicating with both your home Wi-Fi network and your compatible switches and sockets. Once it’s installed, you’ll have complete control over your energy-saving LED lights from wherever you may be. You may be used to installing technology, or you may not.  Either way, you might find this short video useful:

  • Step Three - If your home is particularly large and your fixtures are distant from your router, or your Wi-Fi network is prone to interference, it may become necessary to augment your wireless signal using a Signal Booster. This will effectively increase the range of your signal by 10 to 15 metres and should rectify the issue. Once again, it might prove advantageous to view this instructional video:

Now you know your way around the Home Automation technology, you’ll be able to decide which of your household electrical devices you’d like to automate.

As you’ll have seen from the video, this system has incredible potential to revolutionise your life for the better. You’ll be able to control your home’s entire LED Lighting system, using the wide range of compatible switches. And not only that, but there are also plug sockets, to enable you to control all your electrical devices as well.

A Great Look And Amazing Savings!

Whatever your choice of décor, there’s a stylish finish to match.

If you’re fond of the traditional, white finish, there’s a huge variety of compatible switches and sockets to choose from. You might have a relatively small room, in which case, you’ll only require a 1-gang dimmer.

And don’t forget that when you use your LED bulbs in conjunction with a dimmer switch, you’ll ensure they achieve their incredibly long 50,000 hour life-expectancy, as they’ll be protected from sudden power surges.

This increased longevity in comparison with traditional incandescent light bulbs means LEDs will only need to be replaced once every 17.12 years, as opposed to several times a year.

Similar fixtures are available in stunning chrome, stainless steel and black chrome finishes too and, for larger rooms requiring a greater number of LED lights, you might opt for a 2-gang, 3-gang or even a 4-gang dimmer switch.

It sounds crazy, but the more dimmable LEDs you invest in to replace your wasteful incandescent bulbs, the more money you’ll save.

For example, if you’re installing just one 1-gang LightwaveRF dimmer switch, the maximum load advised is 60 watts.

Requiring such a tiny amount of electricity to power them, you could conceivably control 10 x 6 watt Dimmable GU10 LED Bulbs, each of which is the equivalent of a 60 watt incandescent bulb.

If calculated at 15 pence per kWh (Kilowatts per hour), and running all ten of each bulbs for 8 hours per day for a year, the LED bulbs would cost £26.28 as opposed to the £262.80 incurred by the 60 watt incandescent bulbs.

That’s a saving of £236.52 every year!

Just imagine how much you’ll save by switching the lighting for your whole home over to LEDs, and using them in conjunction with Lightwave’s amazing dimmer switches that will allow you to regulate the light intensity and, therefore your electricity consumption!

With savings like this, not only will you be able to switch your lights off from a tropical beach, but you’ll be able to go away and forget to turn them off several times a year!
