LED Lighting For Your Kitchen
Posted by Navdip Gahir on 2nd Oct 2025
They say the kitchen is the heart of the home.
And it seems that people are really buying into this! (For the record, we agree!)
For this reason, kitchens have become some of the most popular communal areas in the home, almost replacing the living room for enjoying some down time.
It’s fair to say then, that making the kitchen look as nice as possible is a much bigger priority than it was before, and lighting plays a crucial part in this.
Given the flexibility of LED strip lights (and our natural bias towards them), the potential to create your very own “showroom-like” kitchen at home has never been more accessible.
Here are the top three ways that you can use LED tape in your kitchen.
Under Cabinet Task Lighting
No matter how good your general lighting is in your kitchen, you’ll almost always end up with shadows on your worktops because a) your cabinets often sit directly above them, and b) you will be standing over them when using them.
This is why under cabinet task lighting is perhaps the most popular way LED tapes are used in kitchens, as they provide bright lighting for your work spaces at very little cost.
All the cables and the driver can be hidden away inside the cupboard, and the lights themselves remain hidden away underneath the cabinet.
We’d recommend an 8W Day Light 4000K tape for this location.
Under Plinth Glow
Whilst under cabinet lighting serves a practical use, sometimes your lighting just needs to make your kitchen feel more premium and high end.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with this.
Under plinth lighting is a great way to achieve this. The glow gives the impression of a floating kitchen unit, and helps create a lovely ambience that serves only to make the place look nice.
Given that this is primarily a mood lighting installation, we’d recommend either the 8W Warm White 3000K tape, or for a little extra freedom, the 19W RGBWW LED strip light.
Overhead Accent Lighting
Now if you’re going for a particularly modern or minimalist kitchen, and even the prospect of integrated spotlights is too much as your main source of lighting…there is another option.
You can use LED tapes as your source of general illumination, however there are a couple of things you’d need to bear in mind.
The first is that for the most elegant solution, you’d need to recess your strips into your ceiling. There are a couple of ways of doing this - you can either use Recessed Aluminium Profiles, or Plaster-In Aluminium Profiles.
Just bear in mind that with the latter, this does involve channeling into your plasterboard prior to skimming, so this is only really an option for anyone who is doing, or is about to do a renovation.
Alternatively, you can also opt for a suspended ceiling like in the image above.
Secondly, in order to get enough light, you’ll need to run multiple metres of tape. While this isn’t a problem in of itself, the wattage can begin to rack up if you’ve got a particularly large kitchen.
There’s no denying however that once it’s installed, it looks absolutely mindblowing, and definitely something you don’t see in every kitchen.
Our recommendation here would be either the 14W Day Light 4000K Tape, or for a bit more flexibility, our 14W Dual Colour LED Tape, which lets you switch between Warm White and Cool White, or anything in between.
If opting for the Dual Colour option, we’d also heavily recommend our Easilight 5-in-1 Smart Receiver, as this is the easiest way of being able to change colours.
