LED Lights Used For A Successful Photoshoot!

Posted by Chloe Maitland on 16th Apr 2018

Lighting is extremely important when it comes to taking high-quality photos. This professional photographer has made the smart choice of using LEDs to light up his photos.

LEDs are renowned for the amount of light they give out- approximately 90% of the energy in them is converted into light. LED Panel Lights- which has been the choice of lighting throughout this photoshoot- output a lot of lumens but barely use up any power. A non-LED panel of the same size would use up around five times the energy, highlighting how much money you can save on your electricity bills!

A video created for workphlo is a tutorial of the photoshoot and how to get the best quality images using the LED panel light. The photographer, Ryan Mense, takes many images which express a great display of light and he considers LED lights to be ‘an amazing tool to have on set’.

The photographer also states how other lights he has used in the past require a lot of ‘trial and error’ to be able to get the photo how he wishes. In comparison, LED allows him to see exactly how the light directly affects a scene.

LEDs don’t just save you money on your electricity bills, they also are sold at a reasonable price and will enhance any photographer’s images for the better.

The fact that there are different colour temperatures of LEDs means the photographer’s options are endless as they’re not limited to certain colours which could be the case with incandescent bulbs.

Three of the most popular colours people tend to choose are warm white, cool white and daylight. All three colours are known to create a different mood: warm white creates a soft light, cool white compliments brighter colours  and daylight creates a natural effect. These different colours allow the images to have different effects and therefore gives the photographer a lot of options to play with.

The effects that can be created by LEDs may mean that they’ll be the future of photography lighting as more and more people are tending to use the energy-efficient lights.
