There are loads of cool acronyms floating around these days, especially here on the internet.

Whether it’s ‘LOL’ or ‘BRB’, we all come into contact with them every day in one form or another, so you might be surprised to discover that, here at Wholesale LED Lights, the acronym LED stands not only for ‘Light-Emitting Diode’ we believe it also stands for a whole lot more.

So, here you have the alternative components of the ‘LED’ acronym:

L is for Long-Lasting

LED lights have a life-expectancy that far exceeds those of traditional incandescent and halogen bulbs. They even outstrip the life-spans of the CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) that most of us used to believe were the epitome of energy-efficiency.

You can expect any of the LED bulbs you purchase from us to last at least 50,000 hours which, if used for an average of 8 hours a day, means they’ll still be going strong in just over 17 years’ time.

One of the reasons for this is that they produce such a lot less bulb-destroying heat, and the small amount of heat they do generate is dissipated much more efficiently. It’s also the reason for the next letter of the acronym...

E is for Energy- Efficient

Requiring, on average, 90% less energy to run than conventional forms of lighting, switching to LED light bulbs will mean that you’ll you save an enormous amount on your electricity bills.

That’s right, a bulb such as our bestselling GU10 LED 80 SMD, which at just 3.3 watts, requires over 15 times less electricity than an equally bright 50 watt incandescent bulb, meaning you’ll spend 15 times less money to power it!

As if that weren’t enough, you’ll also be doing a huge favour to the environment. Yes, the fact that LEDs use a lot less power than traditional halogen and fluorescent bulbs means that the overall kW/h (Kilowatts per hour) consumption per year is less, which contributes considerably to a reduction in overall CO₂ (Carbon Dioxide) emissions.

D is for Durable

All of our LED lights and bulbs are manufactured from the best quality materials, meaning that not only do they look incredibly stylish, but they’re also built to last.

This commitment to quality and robustness is another of the reasons that LED lights have such an impressive life-expectancy.

In comparison with both incandescent and CFL bulbs, LEDs are the clear winners, durability-wise. Indeed, as both traditional types of light bulb are made from extremely thin glass, with incandescent bulbs housing fragile filaments, they’re highly susceptible to all manner of adverse physical conditions.

LED bulbs are made in a very different way, and one that makes them almost impervious, not only to physical bumping and jarring, but also to humidity and temperature fluctuations, both of which can cause the old-school bulbs a considerable number of problems.

So, next time you buy an LED light bulb, you’ll be aware of exactly how they’ll benefit you and the environment.

In the game of Scrabble, the letters ‘L.E.D.’ might not be very highly scoring, but in real life, they mean a heck of a lot!
