What is Integrated Lighting?

Posted by Nikita Murva on 12th Nov 2018

While LEDs aren’t exactly the newest kid on the block, the technology is becoming increasingly popular for domestic usage due to all the benefits making the switch to them can bring.

They come in an array of styles, colours and sizes – but firstly, we must consider the difference between integrated and retrofit fittings.

We are all traditionally used to purchasing a fitting and buying the bulbs to either click or screw into place. You may want to simply switch to LEDs by buying a retrofit bulb and inserting this into the fixture to join the technological revolution.

But, if you truly want to reap all the benefits of LEDs, opt for an integrated base. Let’s pause for a moment and quickly go through…

The Benefits Of LEDs

LEDs are pretty much immortal with a projected lifespan of 20 years, when used for 8 hours a day. This means they require less frequent replacements and will save you some money.

Speaking of cash, our lights will decrease your electricity bills as they use low amounts of power and around 50% less energy than an incandescent bulb.

They also are incredibly flexible in design and can be used in any form, can be dimmed and have a vast variety of colour options – thanks to our RGB capable products. LEDs are also made of sturdy components to make their design very stylish, yet safe to use as they are virtually immune to breakage and vibrations.

Not at all harmful to your health, LEDs will not flicker or hum like standard bulbs to cause you headaches and eye strain. They also emit no mercury vapour which can be extremely detrimental to not only your health, but this toxic chemical could also destroy the environment.

A Brief Definition

Now we’ve gone through what LEDs can bring to you, let’s discuss integrated bases (which only came onto the scene in 2010).

These stress-free bases simply pertain to fittings with LEDs built into them already. This means you will not have to buy and install bulbs to save you money and time.

An all-in-one fitting, integrated lighting provides you with higher lumen counts and lower wattages.

The Benefits Of Integrated LEDs

As well as being privy to the perks of LEDs, integrated bases offer even more amazing advantages.

One of the biggest advantages of this base is that LEDs are compact which gives room to new designs and styles. Due to a small size, our lights can be used in any application to appeal to everyone’s taste.

Compared to bulbs, the specialised bases can even offer higher CRIs (Colour Rendering Index) to give you an even better quality of lighting.

Integrated LEDs also boast a much longer lifespan as they are left alone and cannot be touched or fussed over. The power supply is usually left separate from the actual LEDs which means it can be replaced without affecting the lighting to prolong life.

Even more reliable than usual, integrated LEDs can deal with heat dissipation a lot better than retrofit bulbs. This is because the fixture is designed around the LED and thus, fitted with an advanced heat sink to direct any excess heat away from the light.
