LED Wallpaper Really Sets The Tone!

If you’ve been around since the 1980s, you’ll know that the décor back then was very much centered around wallpaper.
Flock and Anaglypta, with their bold and brash designs were all the rage, but as the decade progressed and tastes changed, wallpaper became passé and was replaced by faux painting which replicated natural finishes like wood and marble.
Thankfully, the advent of LED lighting technology has ushered in a new age of home decoration and discernment, with Dutch electronics giant, Philips beginning development of an LED-illuminated colour-changing wallpaper that’s likely to set the tone in both mood lighting and home decoration for years to come.
The company is going to be working in collaboration with Kvadrat Soft Cells, another Netherlands-based manufacturer of customisable acoustic panelling that’s suitable for both walls and ceilings. Integrating Philips’ LED Lights into Kvadrat's acoustic panels will create a smart textile that will place a huge range of fully customisable ambient effects and programmable content at the user’s disposal.
Kvadrat's innovative design will also add noise-dampening, echo-eliminating sound-absorption to the material, which will be fantastic given its ability to synchronise it with sound systems to produce a vibrant colour-changing display that mirrors the ebb and flow of music.
The aim of the project is to create comfortable, ambient commercial and domestic environments that are conducive to both work and play.
Henrik Holm, Managing Director Kvadrat Soft Cells states, “Philips is a natural partner for our business as we are both dedicated to encouraging well-being and developing solutions that positively impact peoples’ moods. Through this partnership, we have developed decorative lower cases that truly bring spaces to life.
The LED Wallpaper represents a fusion of LED mood lighting and acoustic technology which is set to open up a whole new set of horizons in terms of interior design. It will offer myriad new options for designers to experiment with illuminating domestic and commercial spaces. Philips has not yet disclosed any information about pricing or availability, but it can be safely assumed that initially this rather fantastic and quirky technology will be an upscale item.
The companies plan on marketing the LED wallpaper to the hospitality and retail industries, so keep an eye out for it in hotels, museums, galleries and up-market shops in the near future.
